A1 Removals & Storage experiences record demand

We caught up with our client A1 Removals & Storage – an Eastbourne-based business that has been serving residents and businesses in the South East for more than 30 years.

With around 700,000 properties in the sales pipeline, removal firms across the county experienced their busiest month ever as homebuyers rushed to beat stamp duty rises.

A1 Removals & Storage owner John Greening bought the company with his business partner in July 2019, with the assistance of Hamed Ovaisi and SO Legal’s corporate and commercial department.

Our team assisted with the corporate purchase and negotiated the warranties in the share purchase agreement (SPA) tightly to ensure adequate post-completion protections.

Two years on, John says they have never had as many bookings as this month and have had to turn away customers because of heightened demand.

“Demand for removal firms is extremely high, and customers will take any available day at the moment. We’re moving people on Saturdays and Sundays, and some customers are moving into store while they wait for a date to become available.”

There’s no doubt that the pandemic has seen people reevaluate where they live. John says A1 has seen demand from London residents increase by “nearly 80 per cent”, with many people looking to move out of the capital to be nearer the coast.

Although A1 has been busy helping customers move, John and his team have also found time to rebrand the business and gear up for future growth.

The company has proudly embraced its heritage – bringing back the blue, white and red branding that was a familiar sight around Eastbourne more than 30 years ago.

The company has also renewed its focus on providing secure and affordable storage solutions in the centre of Eastbourne and is currently in the process of joining the British Association of Removers.
