Commercial property: new home for a growing business

In what has been a busy year for our property team, one of the companies we were delighted to assist is Stupid Egg - purveyors of beautiful and unusual house plants and planters delivered directly to customers across the UK.

Stupid Egg was started in 2014, making and selling its concrete planters on sites like Etsy and NotOnTheHighStreet. From humble beginnings, the company’s popularity and reputation have grown quickly, and it now sells and delivers an impressive range of house plants, planters, and accessories through its own website.

Houseplant sales in the UK have reportedly been on an upward curve for several years. Still, according to Liam, Holly, and the team at Stupid Egg, the stay-at-home orders of the last 18 months saw demand grow even higher as people turned their attention to improving their home surroundings.

Co-founder Liam says: 

“The fashion for house plants has been on the increase in the last few years, particularly with millennials. We were able to expand our range of plants and planters quicker than planned. Sales have continued to increase year on year despite the lifting of the lockdowns and restrictions. The increase in our range has enabled the continued growth.”

To help accommodate Stupid Egg’s expansion, our commercial property solicitors recently assisted the company in securing the lease for a unit at Deanland Business Park, situated approximately two miles north of Hailsham on the outskirts of Golden Cross.

Set in a peaceful rural setting with substantial car parking, the commercial premises comprise a 2,689 sq. ft ground floor and a 431 sq. ft. first-floor office pod, with easy access to the A22 and A27.

Liam adds: 

“This was our first move to fully leased premises. Previous premises were rentals rather than leases, so the leasing process was new. Hamish made things simple and clear. We now have more space allowing further range increase, and we can buy increased quantities to smooth out any unavailability. We have taken on more staff and now in a more professional setting.”
