Global mobility routes

The service supplier visa is part of the global business mobility route. It allows contractual service suppliers and self-employed independent professionals from overseas to deliver services in the UK under covered international trade agreements.

It continues to play an important role for sectors such as technology, consultancy, and professional services, where cross-border project delivery is essential.

Eligibility requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be employed by, or established as, an overseas service provider.
  • Have a certificate of sponsorship (CoS) from a UK sponsor.
  • Have worked for the overseas service provider for at least 12 months.
  • Hold relevant qualifications and professional experience in the service sector.
  • Meet the English language requirement where applicable (B2 level from January 2026).
  • Have sufficient funds to support themselves unless exempt.
  • Ensure the UK sponsor meets the new compliance and suitability standards introduced under HC 1333.

Application process

  • Step 1 – Sponsorship: The UK sponsor issues a CoS for the service contract.

  • Step 2 – Visa application: Apply online, pay the visa fee and immigration health surcharge, and provide supporting documents.

  • Step 3 – Decision: Most applications are processed within three weeks if made from outside the UK.

Length of stay

This visa is valid for up to six months in any twelve-month period.

Settlement

The service supplier visa does not lead directly to settlement. Applicants may switch into other routes, such as skilled worker, that can lead to indefinite leave to remain.
